Crime - Neighbourhood watch
Home Watch schemes continue to thrive in the borough of
Rochdale, providing closer links between neighbours, the community
and the Police. They also improve people's awareness of crime,
therefore making them less likely to become victims.
Most crime is opportunist, committed on the spur of the moment
or when a car or a house is left unlocked. Home Watch schemes help
to reduce local crimes such as burglary, vandalism, car thefts and
thefts from cars. They also increase community spirit and allow
residents to get access to up to date crime prevention advice.
The Police are there to fight crime, but they cannot succeed on
their own - they need support from the public. This support can be
given in the effective way of forming a Home Watch scheme.
Whatever the problem in your neighbourhood, you have the power
to do something about it and when several people act as a group it
becomes much easier. Home Watch schemes provide a way for local
residents to get together and do something about matters they are
concerned with. There is no restriction to the amount of houses
involved in the scheme, so get together with your neighbours and
make your community more secure.
