Community strategy
Pride of Place - The community strategy for Rochdale borough has
been revised to take us forward to 2007-2010. The
strategy outlines what needs doing to improve the economic,
social and environment wellbeing of the borough and
its residents.
About Pride of Place
Pride of Place covers all aspects of life in the borough
including crime, health, employment, education and the
environment.
It includes:
- A long term vision and aims for the borough in 2021
- An action plans for move towards the aims over the next few
years
Pride of Place will affect everyone who has an interest in the
borough. Rochdale Borough Council and its partners have
collaborated to ensure that the strategy reflects the views of
local people, community groups, and other organisations. They have
developed the structure of the Rochdale Borough Local Strategic
Partnership for this purpose.
What is the Partnership?
The Pride Partnership is the borough's Local Strategic
Partnership and was established in 2003. The
Partnership is open to anyone with an interest in the borough,
whether they live or work here. It brings together all of the key
groups and organisations responsible for the delivery of services
within the borough and comprises of representatives from the
public, private, community, voluntary and faith sectors.
It wants organisations' plans and services to address the main
issues that concern residents. It aims to encourage more effective,
co-ordinated work between the many agencies, organisations and
other partnerships in the Borough. It intends to build on existing
work to develop more long-term joint policies and strategies.
The Partnership's
vision
Our Vision is of a thriving place
where people want to live, work, visit and do business – a place in
which we can all take pride.
Our aims
Our aims are that by 2021 the borough will be a place where:
- Our towns and villages are surrounded by countryside and have
parks and open spaces that are accessible, well maintained and well
used.
- Our people feel safe because we have reduced the level of
crime, drugs misuse and neighbourhood problems, in our towns and
villages to no higher than the regional average.
- Our roads and streets are safe, clean and well maintained.
- We have reduced our impact on the local and global environment
by reducing pollution and waste, and saving energy and water.
- There are more jobs – and better-paid ones – throughout the
Borough so that local people have more money, and poverty and
deprivation are falling. Our businesses are competitive, diverse,
dynamic and well supported.
- We have better lifelong education and training for all ages, so
that people are confident in learning new skills and gaining
knowledge, so that they can achieve their full potential and
aspirations.
- We enjoy good health and well being in all our neighbourhoods
and communities, and have reduced health inequalities.
- We all enjoy warm, safe and secure homes, with choice of
location, size, price and tenure.
- We have access to good shops and arts and leisure facilities,
and events and activities are taking place in all areas.
- We celebrate our ethnic and cultural diversity, and have good
race relations and positive links with other parts of the world. We
respect and maintain our heritage.
- We are well connected to the whole of Great Britain by our high
quality transport system – especially public transport – and by our
electronic and business links.
- Local people are active citizens and shape their future. We are
seen as a national model for partnerships between local people and
organisations.
All of these aims contribute to each other. All of the issues
they cover matter to local people. Some matter more than others do
for some people, but overall, they identified the following
priorities:
- Increasing jobs and prosperity
- Making sure every child matters
- Improving community safety
- Creating a cleaner greener environment
- Improving better and more jobs
What happens next?
Between 2007-2010 the Partnership will need to pursue the
actions which the strategy identifies, monitor progress on the
strategy and report on it annually. This will require shared
commitment from the community, partners and organisations.
