Apply for planning permission for business

Most commercial development requires planning permission. Development involves building, engineering, mining or changing the use of land or buildings. This can include:

Extending or altering a commercial buildings.
Extending or creating new car parks.
Some forms of advert, for example illuminated signs.
Installing or altering shop fronts and security shutters.
New housing development.
Change of use.
Sub division of a dwelling.
Running a business from home.

In most cases you'll need planning permission. You may also require building regulation approval.

Full planning permission by submitting detailed plans.
Outline planning permission to establish the principle of the development. This allows you to provide more detailed information later in the planning process.
Advertisement consent.
