Good Guy Scheme
We run a ‘Good Guy Scheme’ in the borough every
year. It encourages retailers to be more responsible in the lead up
to Bonfire Night and publicises the responsible retailers you can
buy fireworks from.
We work in partnership with Greater Manchester Police and the
Fire Service and participating traders following a code of
conduct that prevents firework nuisance.
The Good Guy Scheme has been operating in Rochdale since 2004.
Last year, 23 out of 31 local traders who are registered to
sell fireworks agreed to abide by the conditions of the scheme.
These are:
- Store fireworks in a secure area in accordance with fire safety
regulations
- Do not sell fireworks to anyone under 18
- Do not to sell fireworks before the 15 October and after 10
November (unless they own a year round licence)
As part of the scheme they also agree to not sell any
of the following prohibited fireworks:
- Aerial Wheels
- Bangers (Double or flash)
- Combinations
- Jumping Crackers
- Jumping ground spinners
- Spinners
- Mini Rockets
- Shot tubes
How do you become a member?
It's easy to join the scheme:
- We carry out an inspection of your premises
- We advise the owner or manager of their legal obligations
- We ensure the relevant precautionary measures are in
place.
- You agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the
scheme
- We issue a membership certificate
You can then display a Good Guy poster on your premises and your
name is included in the list of members we publish in the
local press
