Gaming machines licence
A gaming machine permit is required in respect of premises
providing amusements with prizes by way of machines.
The most common applications of gaming machines are those
commonly referred to as 'fruit machines' and 'one armed bandits'
which make small payments. Typically these machines would be
found in amusements arcades and motorway service stations as well
as pubs and clubs. They are no longer allowed in such places
as take-aways, private hire offices and cafes and can only be
provided in premises where the main use is the provision of
gaming.
There are various restrictions on the use of machines, depending
on the category of machine and the type of licence/permit under
which they are operated. Details can be found on the Gambling

A permit is not required where the machine in question is based
only on a game of skill, for example quiz machines, or is an
amusement only machine and in either case no money or token is paid
out by the machine.
