How to pay your business rates

Business rates are normally payable in 10 monthly instalments but if you're a new customer and we send a bill after April we may reduce the number of instalments.

If you're experiencing financial difficulties and cannot afford to pay your business rates, you should contact us straight away, so that we can help.

If you don't contact us and continue to default on your payments, we will take action to recover any money outstanding. This will involve the issue of a Magistrates Court summons, and could result in bailiff action, insolvency or even committal to prison.

The easiest way to pay is by Direct Debit.

To pay by Direct Debit, all you have to do is telephone us or complete a form (a ‘Direct Debit instruction’) and send it to us. Then each month on the due dates, we'll ask your bank for payment direct from your bank account. You won't have to queue up to pay, write out a cheque or remember when your payments are due.

In most cases we can set up a Direct Debit by phone, you can contact us on 0845 121 2970 to set up a Direct Debit but if your mandate requires more than one signature you will need to request a mandate by phoning the Business Rates Team on 01706 926170.
