Regeneration - Heywood New Deal for Communities

New Deal for Communities

The New Deal for Communities (NDC) project is one of the key elements in the Government’s National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal. This strategy aims to tackle social exclusion by narrowing the gap between the poorest neighbourhoods and the rest of the country.

The NDC Programme works in 39 of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the country. The programme works in areas that suffer from:

  • Poor job prospects
  • High levels of crime
  • Poor health
  • Low educational standards
  • Poor housing and environment

NDC Partnerships are firmly based on involvement of the local community, so that the Partnership brings together residents, voluntary organisations and public agencies - all of those who have a contribution to make to the regeneration of Heywood.

New Heart for Heywood is a New Deal for Communities (NDC) Partnership. On 2 May 2001, the Government awarded the Partnership £52m to regenerate the town of Heywood.

Vision:

To create a New Heart for Heywood through a series of lasting changes, which will improve the quality of life in the home and on the street for Heywood.
