Planning applications - householders
The Government has announced changes to what householders can do
to their property without needing planning permission. This is
called “permitted development.” These changes come
into effect on 1st October 2008.
If you are thinking of making alterations to your house or
flat you are advised to consult us to see if you require
planning permission.
Important: anyone who has received
advice from the Development Control Service that planning
permission was not required and where this work has not been
completed, is strongly advised to check again with the Council
before commencement.
Please send details of your proposal to us using our
enquiry form.

Householder applications
These are applications dealing with house extensions, garages,
enlargements to gardens, erection of walls and fences to domestic
properties, or any other outbuildings within the boundary of your
own property.
To erect a new dwelling you must apply for full or outline
planning permission
If your property is a listed building you must also apply for
listed building consent.
Your completed application forms (3 copies) should be
accompanied by the relevant checklist. You should indicate on
the checklist the information you have provided and which
information you do not consider relevant to your application.
Please note, however, that any application which does not
provide all the required details may not be
validated.
