Help through a Discretionary Housing Payment
You may be entitled to some extra help through a Discretionary
Housing Payment (DHP) if you don't get full Housing Benefit
and Council Tax Benefit and you're still paying something
towards your rent or your Council Tax bill.
A Discretionary Housing Payment can be paid if we think you need
further help to pay your housing costs. We cannot give a
Discretionary Housing Payment to cover the cost of things included
in your rent, like fuel, water or food charges.
How do I claim a Discretionary Housing
Payment?
If you think you may qualify for extra help, you must
complete an application form. You can:
To claim a Discretionary Housing Payment you'll need to provide
us with full details of why you feel you should get extra help, for
example, details of any medical conditions and family circumstances
you feel should be taken into account.
We may need to ask you to provide additional information and/or
evidence to support your application.
You can get help with your request for a Discretionary
Housing Payment from organisations such as the Citizens
Advice Bureau.
