Marriage - renewal ceremonies
Renewal of marriage vows ceremony is a ceremony for any married
couple that would like to celebrate or renew their marriage vows
before their family and friends in a unique and personal way.
Couple may wish to have a ceremony to mark special anniversaries
such as 10 or 25 years. Many couples that marry abroad choose
to have a renewal of marriage vows ceremony for their family and
friends on their return. These ceremonies are also appropriate for
couples who have been through a period of strain in their
relationship, but now would like to celebrate their renewed
commitment to each other.

Renewal of vows ceremony
Our Renewal of Vows Ceremony has ten sections to the
ceremony:
- Introduction and welcome
- Acknowledgement of any children
- Comments by friends/ family (Optional)
- Reading (Optional)
- Renewal of marriage vows (5 different choices of vows)
- Rededication of rings
- Giving of new rings or gifts (Optional)
- Reading (Optional)
- Signing and presentation of Certificate
- Conclusion of ceremony by celebrant
There is plenty of scope for making your ceremony a very
personal and unique occasion. You have the option to choose from a
variety of renewal vows, or you can write your own personal vows.
You can include readings and personal speeches and your children
can also be included in the ceremony.
Time and location of a ceremony
You can book your ceremony to take place at Rochdale Register
Office (Roche Suite) or at one of our 11 approved venues for civil
ceremonies. Your ceremony can take place any day of the year
(excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day) between 10am-4pm. The fees
charged for your ceremony will vary dependant on the location and
the day of the week.
Length of ceremony
A ceremony lasts about 20-30 minutes depending on the choices
made by the couple concerned.
Ceremony certificate
A renewal/reaffirmation of vows certificate is signed during the
ceremony by the couple, witnesses and the celebrant and given as a
memento of the occasion.
Legal status
Renewal/reaffirmation of vows do not have a legal status. A
renewal/reaffirmation of vows ceremony is simply a ceremony a
couple choose to do as a celebration of their marriage, usually
celebrating a special occasion for example, 25th Wedding
Anniversary.
Religious content
A renewal/reaffirmation of vows ceremony cannot have a religious
content when performed by a civil celebrant. The ceremony could
have a religious content only if a minister of religion performs
it; arrangements would have to be made through the church or
minister concerned.
