Debt counselling

The Advice Service provides free and confidential advice on all aspects of debt and assist Rochdale residents who are experiencing multiple debt problems.

We can assist with:

  • Mortgage/rent arrears
  • Council Tax/Utility arrears
  • Loan, credit card, charge card and catalogue debts
  • Bankruptcy, administration orders, individual voluntary arrangements
  • Problems with bailiffs and debt collectors
  • Fines
  • Hire purchase debt

We also have specialist workers who

  • Represent residents in the County Court in proceedings relating to any of the above matters.
  • Provide training on debt issues to voluntary sector groups.

We have produced in conjunction with CAB a self-help pack, for those who wish to use it.

The Advice Service also assists people with housing problems and welfare rights issues – see the related links about the help we can provide.

We can give you general advice about welfare benefits, debt or housing issues via our Advice Line.  If the problem is complicated then we can make you an appointment at one of our advice sessions, see related pages for a list of venues throughout the borough.  If we think that your case will need ongoing work then it will be allocated to a specific worker.
