Neighbourhood Renewal

Neighbourhood Renewal Funding (NRF)

Deprived neighbourhoods have a lot in common. Poor housing, poor health, poor education, fewer job opportunities and high crime rate. That's why the Government has set out an ambitious vision for narrowing the gap between deprived neighbourhoods and the rest of the country.

Rochdale is one of the 88 most deprived Local Authority areas and receives Neighbourhood Renewal Funds from the Government in order to improve the quality of life for residents in our poorest neighbourhoods.

The Neighbourhood Renewal Funds aim to achieve:Economic prosperity

  • Safe communities
  • High quality education
  • Decent housing
  • Better health
Priorities for improvement

22 neighbourhoods were identified for improvement in Rochdale under the Rochdale Borough neighbourhood Renewal Strategy.  These are:

Back O'Th Moss Birch View
Brimrod Brotherod
Cloverhall & Bellshill Darnhill
Deeplish & Milkstone Freehold
Greave Hollin
Kirkholt Langley
Lower Falinge Newbold
North East Middleton Smallbridge
Sparth Spotland
Syke The Cray
Turf Hill Wardleworth & Hamer

Each of these neighbourhoods has since developed a Neighbourhood Action Plan (NAP), which through consultation with residents outlines current outstanding issues within the area.  These issues can then be tackled in partnership with relevant agencies with the aim of improving the neighbourhood and narrowing the gap in deprivation.
