Sparth Area Forum

The Rochdale Township office and Sparth Area Forum are committed to involving local residents, voluntary organisations and businesses in the decision making process for your ward.

We invite your local councillors, council officers, representatives from the Police and other authorities to attend and respond to any issues that are raised.

You don't have to be a member of the forum or involved in a group to come along, but you do need to reside or work in the Sparth ward.

What the forum does

This is your chance to play an important role in the Sparth ward and make a difference to the area.

The meeting has an 'Open Forum' section where you can raise issues that are of concern to you on the night.  Typical topics in previous Area Forums include:

  • Damaged footpaths, roads, poor lighting and blocked drains
  • Street cleaning, waste, recycling, litter and fly tipping
  • Traffic and public transport
  • Crime and disorder
  • Services for children and young people
  • Adult care services and activities
  • Local parks and recreation
  • Local planning and regulation matters

We attend the meeting and make sure that we feed back the issues you raise, together with any recommendations made.

We report all minutes from your Area Forum to Township Committee meetings which take place every two months. These formal meetings are attended by councillors and senior council officers and the minutes from your Area Forum provide an opportunity to emphasise your views and highlight your concerns as a resident of the Township.  The members of this Township Committee can then find ways for us to address some of these views and concerns.

Your participation can make a difference

We consider the Area Forums to be a way of taking the process of our decision making to a very local level.  We see them as an informal extension of the Township Committee meetings.

By participating in Area Forums, you can maximise the influence of local people over the way we deliver services and funds for community activities in your area.

Your involvement not only makes a difference to the immediate issues that affect you, but you can also influence the long term vision for the future of your area.

If you want further information about future meetings and want to become involved in the local decision making process, then please contact the Rochdale Township Office.
