Housing Benefit Take up strategy 2010-2011
Our Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit take up strategy is
the plan that sets out:
- Why we must increase benefit take up
- What resources and data we will use to increase benefit take
up
- How we will increase benefit take up.
Our Community Engagement Team actively develops long term
plans to promote the take-up of benefits, addresses customer
service availability and access, which enables customers to make
successful claims.
We have recognised that there are many reasons why
customers may not claim the benefit they are entitled to: such as,
not being aware of the benefits available to them, struggling with
the claims process, a wish to maintain independence, language,
literacy and health issues or even just feeling uncomfortable in
claiming.
We strive to
- Maximise the payment of benefits to those people who are
entitled to claim
- Break down any barriers by simplifying the claims process
- Raise general awareness and target specific groups.
We believe a personalised approach to benefit take-up is more
likely to have a positive effect so developing links with
local groups and organisations; leading to customer referrals,
information exchange and advice surgeries.
