About the BME Housing Strategy
This
BME
housing
strategy feeds into the overarching housing strategy for the
borough. Ultimately, our goal is to address all the housing and
housing related support issues within the borough in a single
strategy. Currently, however, the level of housing need among the
BME
community needs
a separate strategy. To achieve our long-term goal, this
BME
housing strategy
shares the over-arching housing strategy’s vision. The strategic
aims of quality, choice and inclusion run through this strategy and
continue to the aims and objectives of the parent document.
A Black and
Minority Ethnic Housing Strategy for the Borough of Rochdale

The housing strategy has defined our vision for the borough:
“To make Rochdale a place which offers quality and choice for
ALL in housing throughout the borough”.
Aims
The 3 core strategic aims contribute to this overall vision for
housing in the borough. They are also directly related to the
3 strategic aims in the main strategy, but specifically how they
relate to
BME
communities.
Aim1: Quality
To provide warm, dry and secure homes within sustainable
neighbourhoods for
BME
groups.
Aim 2: Choice
Provide
BME
residents across the borough with a choice of housing that meets
their needs.
Aim 3: Inclusion
To meet the housing needs of disadvantaged groups in an inclusive
manner within sustainable communities.
Ownership and successful delivery of the
BME
Housing Strategy is a
responsibility we share with all our partners. We have a
proven track record of working in partnership with social landlords
to address the housing needs of the
BME
people living in the
borough.
We have developed this strategy with Ashiana Housing
Association in partnership with other housing associations,
including Guinness Northern Counties Housing Association, West
Pennine Housing Association, St Vincent’s Housing Association,
Contour Housing Group, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, Rochdale
Housing Initiative, Surma and Bowlee Park.
We have developed a comprehensive action plan to
deliver key objectives and priorities in the strategy. We
have formed a group of all our key partners to monitor progress
against targets in the action plan and to review of the
objectives and priorities of the strategy every year.
