Whistleblowing Policy
All of us, at one time or another, may have
concerns about what is happening at work within the
Council Usually these concerns are easily resolved.
However, when they are about unlawful or inappropriate conduct, or
financial malpractice it can be difficult to know what to do.
This is where our Whistleblowing Policy comes
in. It forms part of the Anti-Fraud and Corruption
Strategy and encourages people to report if they suspect any
impropriety at at work within the Council. This can include
anything from theft, to awarding tenders unfairly to evidence of
money laundering for example.
We takes all forms of malpractice very
seriously and have introduced the Whistle blowing Policy to
encourage you to raise your concerns at an early stage and in the
right way. This policy applies to all employees. For
the purpose of this policy only, the term "employees" also includes
contractors and suppliers working for or on behalf of the Council,
on Council premises or elsewhere.
We know that raising issues like these can be
difficult and that people can have concerns about whether they are
being disloyal to colleagues, or might not be sure that they have
enough evidence.
If you raise a genuine concern, you will not
be at risk of suffering any form of retribution as a result.
Provided you are acting in good faith, it does not matter if you
are mistaken. Of course we do not extend this assurance to
someone who maliciously raises a matter they know is untrue.
Anything you tell us will be treated in the
strictest confidence.
