Parenting strategy
There is now compelling evidence that suggests parents are the
main influence in their child’s life. In order for children to
achieve the five outcomes for Every Child Matters it has been
recognised that parenting support is key.
Change for Children
The five outcomes are:
- Be Healthy
- Stay Safe
- Enjoy and Achieve
- Make a Positive Contribution
- Achieve Economic Well-being
To make sure that parents and carers across Rochdale borough
have every opportunity to do well, we have consulted with parents
and carers and their children so we know what support is needed and
we would like to thank them for their time and contributions. Our
Parenting Strategy can be summarised as follows:
- Parenting is a priority for Rochdale borough – we know how
important it is to the long term success and wellbeing of children
and young people;
- We have many examples of good practice across the borough – but
they are patchy and access isn’t always clear;
- We believe that our principles of partnership, inclusion,
cultural change alongside parental empowerment; as well as a
commitment to champion consistently high quality provision for
parents give the borough a sound basis on which to develop
support;
- We are committed to an inclusive commissioning process based on
listening to parents and carers and meeting their particular
needs;
- Parenting is integral to the development of multi-agency
area-based working and parenting provision will work alongside
other providers so that there is a continuum of support for parents
and carers;
- We will work to ensure that Parenting Orders have positive
outcomes for both parents and children;
- We will maintain and review our action plan so that we can
develop and improve parenting provision.
