Single equality scheme 2012-2015
This Scheme is due to be published by the beginning of April
2012. This scheme includes our equality and diversity priorities
and objectives for 2012-2015 and provides information on the
arrangements that we have in place to meet the requirements of the
Equality Act 2010. It is supported by an action plan which covers
the 9 protected characteristics.
The new public sector equality duty protects people from
discrimination on the basis of certain characteristics which are
known as protected characteristics. There are 9 protected
characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or
civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, sex
(gender), and sexual orientation.
