Your questions answered:

  1. Question: Do I need a reason to have a postal vote?
    Answer: No you don't need a reason to have a postal vote. 
  2. Question: Where can my postal vote be sent?
    Answer: You can choose to have your ballot paper sent to your home address or a different address of your choice.  If you'd like it sent to a different address, you must give a reason for this on your application form. 
  3. Question: What personal details do I need to provide?
    Answer: You'll need to provide information such as name, address, date of birth, a specimen of your signature.
  4. Question: Can my postal vote be sent abroad?
    Answer: Yes it can. These will be sent out approximately one week before polling day.  You'll need to decide whether this is enough time for you to receive it, complete it and send it back to us in time for it to be counted.
  5. Question: Can I still choose to vote at my polling station if I have a postal vote?
    Answer: No. 
  6. Question: How do I complete my postal ballot pack?
    Answer: When you receive your pack you should:
    • Mark your vote on the ballot paper
    • Complete the postal vote statement as appropriate, remembering to sign it within the grey box and complete your date of birth
    • Seal your completed ballot paper in envelope 'A'
    • Place envelope 'A' and your completed postal vote statement in envelope 'B' and return it
    • Make sure that your vote arrives back with us before 10pm on election day.  Any votes received after this time will be too late to be counted. Full instructions will be supplied in the postal voting pack.
  7. Question: What if I do not receive my pack or it is lost or spoilt?
    Answer: You can get a replacement pack by calling in person to the Electoral Services Section, Town Hall, Rochdale. You will need to bring photographic proof of your identity, for example passport, photo driving licence, bus permit, student card.
  8. Question: How is my postal vote counted?
    Answer: Your ballot paper will be mixed with all others before counting begins which ensures your vote remains secret.
